Blue eyed grass is a low growing soft grass like plant, which goes dormant in summer after its spring flowering. Not really a grass, it’s actually a member of the Iris family, which is apparent after seeing its bright flowers, reminiscent of a tiny Iris. Treating it as a bulb for landscape applications works well, as it will go summer dormant, tolerating a fair amount of drought, but still appreciating slower draining soil and a bit of extra moisture. Typically in the wild its found in meadows and open grassland, which have been hit particularly hard by development and grazing.
