Salvia Spathacea – Hummingbird Sage – 1gallon

$10.00

SKU: HERB15SS Category:

Hummingbird sage is a low, ground-cover species that prefers shady spots, such as beneath Oak Trees or other locations with at least part shade.  This is a more coastal species, probably not too common more than 20 miles inland throughout coastal California, from A few occurrences near San Francisco to a little south of the L.A area.  As its name implies, this is a great nectar source for hummingbirds, as are most flowers with a somewhat tubular shape, and in addition it has a wonderful sagey/fruity scent. Besides being a great ground-cover for shady spots, it is still a low water shrub, and can be on the same watering schedule as your other Sage scrub species, not requiring additional water once established, but a once a month soaking when it doesn’t rain ,such as simmer time, will keep it a bit greener year round.
