Datura, also known as sacred Datura, Toluaca, Jimson weed, etc is a unique and interesting wildflower. First off are the huge trumpet like blooms, probably the largest native flower in southern California, if not the whole state. A beautiful white or purple tinged hue, with leaves having a unique fragrance I would compare to peanut butter. A very hardy plant, Datura is often found growing in disturbed areas such as roadsides or trails, making it fairly easy to take care of, mainly by ignoring it after a short initial period of watering. The other main feature of note about this species is that is is poisonous. Not only that but it is considered a hallucinogen, and a deliriant as well. Not for anyone overly concerned about poisons around the home, but as long as people are aware enough not to eat unknown plants or their fruit, then it should be no danger.
