Wild Grapes would seem fairly self explanatory at first glance. However desert is a bit of a misnomer because this species isn’t specifically a desert species, really just being the southern California wild grape, while Vitis Californica is the wild grape for the northern part of the state. Vitis girdiana is more drought tolerant than its close relative, and better suited for the drier climate. It loses leaves in winter, but it is perennial and will continue to increase in size year over year up to 50ft, climbing all but the tallest trees. Edible grapes are good though seeded, and wildlife love them as well. A great choice for arbors and large vines for any native garden, contributing to pollinators in addition to its plentiful fruit.
