Iva Hayesiana, also known as San Diego marsh elder, is found only around San Diego county and a small area of Baja. A great inclusion for any San Diego garden, it forms a low mound around 4ft high, and can creep out to 9ft wide but is easily trimmed back. often used for native hedges in public spaces. Although it typically grows in high moisture areas such as riverbank slopes, it is still drought tolerant and easy to grow in almost any garden location. Marsh elder is very fragrant, brushing the leaves results in a powerful, yet light, fruity scent. Evergreen with flowers that are not very noticeable, being greenish yellow and small in size.
