California Bullrush is a large reed in the sedge family that is found all across California, and well outside the state as well. This is one of the two large reed species one might see in ponds and wetlands of southern California, the other being Cat-tails. This is a tall and slender graceful looking sedge, with small seed heads and a vibrant color, as well as no sharp edges. This is definitely a wetland species as it grows typically in standing, or slow moving water. Ponds, stream margins etc are great choices for placement. It can also do okay as a potted plant, so long as it gets regular water. Keep in mind it is also a vigorous spreader, that will take up a large area if given the chance.
