Category:

Leptosyne maritima, formerly Coreopsis, is a unique succulent species only growing in a small area through the southern California and Baja coast. This threatened species ( ranked 2b.2 by CNPS) is a fleshy and delicate succulent with a branching form that rarely exceeds 2ft in height. Surprisingly for many, this succulent produces a flower very much typical for the family of sunflowers, and it could well be thought of as a succulent sunflower. An appropriate choice for coastal gardens, but much further than 10 miles inland and a frost would reaLdily wipe them out. Isolated occurrences have been noted in inland areas where cliffs or canyons provide shelter. A great choice to preserve rare local flora.
