Salix gooddingii -Gooding’s Black Willow – 5gallon

Gooding’s Black willow is a common Tree species across California, from the south coast throughout the central Valley and up to north of Sacramento. This is a full sized tree growing up to around 40ft tall, and as with other Willows, it is found in high water areas. This doesn’t preclude it from having a large range however, as it will grow in desert conditions, provided it is near a source of groundwater or a stream etc. This is with the exception of high altitude or mountain climates, as it isn’t really found much above 2,000 ft elevation.

Tolerant of poor soils, and also providing food and habitat for various animal species from insects to mammals, this is a solid choice for a wetland restoration or stream-side garden almost anywhere!
