California Adolphia is a local endemic species, growing in Baja Mexico and Southern California, but no further north than San Diego. It is ranked 2B.1 by CNPS meaning it is rare or threatened In California, but still found commonly elsewhere in Baja. A great choice for San Diego wildlife gardens, for those wanting to increase local biodiversity and show of our unique local flora! Adolphia or spineshrub, prickbush etc, is a spiny one, without true thorns, but with each branch ending in a spike. This could make it a a better choice for a spot not near walkways etc, but it isn’t too formidable. It also has an amazing blooming period from spring into winter, with a profusion of cream colored flowers, attracting lots of nectar feeding critters!
