A small and delicate looking perennial herb, coastal locoweed actually grows in diverse habitats fairly far from the coast, north of Los Angeles and south into Baja California. As a legume it has the potential to return nitrogen to the soil through fixation and is a host plant for several butterfly species, the Silvery Blue, and Queen Alexandria’s Sulphur. A great habitat species not seen very often, and a great accent with feathery foliage and cream white flowers followed by bulbous seed pods.
